Exchange students are admitted to either the YSEP or ACAP program. In general, YSEP is more research-oriented and has some compulsory courses, while ACAP is more suitable for students interesting in freely choosing courses.

- From spring 2019 ACAP is changed. There will be two different ACAP programs: ACAP Research-oriented program and ACAP Course oriented program.
“The course-oriented program” will be established in ACAP in addition to the conventional research-oriented program. In this program, the students only take our courses, not engage in research.

- The period of study is from 3 months to 1 year
- Students have free choice of courses and may also choose to focus on research
- Students are required to find their academic advisor at Tokyo Tech and get an acceptance from the professor prior to their applications
YSEP Focused on Research
- Applicants must have completed at least 3 years of undergraduate study but have not yet completed a master course at the home university
- The period of study is fixed from September-August
- YSEP has a unique curriculum, with some compulsory subjects and some elective courses.
YSEP for Experiencing Japan
- Applicants must have completed at least 2.5 years of undergraduate study but have not yet completed a master's course at the home university
- The period of study is one semester
Exchange students can take any course from the International Graduate Program (IGP), undergraduate program, and Japanese language courses.
If the student's Japanese proficient level is sufficient, he/she can take undergraduate/graduate courses offered in Japanese.
If he/she has to choose courses taught in English, on the other hand, since all undergraduate courses are taught only in Japanese, even an undergraduate student would need to choose among the graduate courses offered in English:

It is possible to take courses from different schools, but with permission from both the student's academic advisor and the course instructor.
A course called 'Study on Japanese Companies and Industries I/II' is only for regular students and YSEP exchange students. (ACAP students are not eligible to enroll in this course)
Language(s) of instruction
YSEP program - proficiency in English or Japanese is required. ACAP program - proficiency in English or Japanese is strongly recommended. Courses at the bachelor level are taught in Japanese.Insurance
The following insurance is compulsory for international exchange students:1) National Health Insurance: Their payment will be 30 % of the medical expense when they receive treatment at hospitals due to sickness/injuries.
*It costs about 30,000 JPY per year. The exact cost varies by the municipal office where the student is registered.

2) Life Multi Insurance NR-Type by COOP: For general disease and accident insurance covering activities both inside and outside of the university.
3) Personal Liability Insurance by COOP: For their legal liability in respect to bodily injury caused to a third party during daily life.
*Life Multi Insurance NR-Type by COOP and Personal Liability Insurance by COOP cost 5,860 JPY in total per year.

2) Disaster and Accident Insurance for Students (GAKKENSAI): Benefits will be paid in case of unexpected disasters or accidents during regular curricular/ extracurricular activities and while commuting.
3) Personal Liability Insurance for Students (GAKKENBAI): To indemnify students for personal liability provided for by law for injuries caused to a third party or properties damaged during regular curricular activities, school events and while commuting.
*Disaster and Accident Insurance for Students (GAKKENSAI) & Personal Liability Insurance for Students (GAKKENBAI) cost 1,340 JPY in total per year.
