Course offerings/limitations

All courses/departments/faculties are open to exchange students. Students can combine courses from different faculties. However, applications will be examined through the selection committee first of all and as a second stage through each faculty to which the applicant submits the application. At that stage, each faculty will judge whether it is possible to take one semester's load of courses taught in Japanese considering the applicant's ability in their own field and in the Japanese language.
Please note that the academic requirements are high and students should have good grades in order to have a good chance of being accepted to study at Kagoshima.

Language(s) of instruction

Language requirements: Undergraduates -- see page 2 at http://www.kagoshima-u.ac.jp/exam/h25-sihi.pdf (only in Japanese). Graduates -- no proof of language test is required if one's supervisor approves. Please also note that the Japanese language proficiency requirement is high (preferably JLPT N1 or N2). Students must be able to attend classes taught in Japanese and work at a similar level as Japanese students.

Insurance

International students who stay in Japan for more than 3 months must join the National Health Insurance, and the premium is approx. JPY 1,500 per month. Once the student is insured under the National Health Insurance, 70% of the medical bills are covered by the insurance, so students need to pay only 30% of the costs.
